There is no bad month — only better and worse moments for what you came to see.
Dry season: June to October
Grass is short, water is scarce and animals concentrate around rivers and waterholes — the easiest game viewing of the year. It is also the busiest and most expensive period, so camps should be reserved many months ahead.
Green season: November to May
Short rains fall around November, longer rains from March into May. Afternoon showers are common rather than all-day rain. Birding is exceptional, the light is beautiful, and both crowds and prices drop.
Matching month to interest
Calving and predator action: late January to February in the south. River crossings: July to September in the north. Chimpanzee trekking at Mahale: the drier months of July to October. Zanzibar beaches: any month outside the long rains.
